  74. For a plain terminal type communications program, try mskermit.  It
  75. is public domain (not shareware) and you can find it on the ftp
  76. archive oak.oakland.edu in with path /pub/msdos/kermit/msker313.zip.

  98. I've ftp'd several versions of Graphic Packet and have yet to find on
  99. with English docs.  Is this a trick... I see others talking about it
  100. and it seems to be fairly popular but maybe they all have someone
  101. who reads German (I'm guessing of course, since I don't read German).

  103. Just curious... I haven't been able to make the German version work, mostly
  104. because I don't understand the error messages or the config file...

  159. There are several.  Ardis is owned by Motorola and IBM (or was- think IBM
  160. bailed out).  Ardis is the network behind the neat handheld terminals that
  161. IBM servicepersons carried around.  RAM Mobile Data is another.  There is
  162. also a new entrant- Metricom and their Richochet Microcellular Network. 
  163. They're the most promising for the casual user- they use the 900 MHz band,
  164. access is cheap.

  166. Metricom is in Los Gatos, CA.  I don't have any pointers for RAM or Ardis.

  199. Would like to know mode of operation, speed, as well as the content
  200. of the message. (coded or plain english).

  202. I have a brochure describing a radio made by Nemar, Inc of Dallas, TX
  203. which describes the features of a weather radio that makes use of
  204. the WRSAME data. The radio is programmed by the user. The user can 
  205. program the radio for 31 event/location combinations. The user will then
  206. receive a warning for a specific event or geographic location, instead of
  207. an entire metro area. The brochure does not give any other specifics.
  208.  
  209. The NWS in Kansas City is currently using WRSAME when issuing watches
  210. and warnings. There are 3 short bursts sent prior to the 1050 Hz tone. 
  211. The total time is about 2 seconds for all 3 bursts.
  212.  
  213. I've talked to a few of the NWS personnel and some amateur radio people,
  214. and have not been able to get this information. Since tests, watches, and
  215. warnings are not issued every day, it's difficult to experiment.

  217. Would like to make use of this feature using my PK-232 if possible.
